Knitting Pattern: Custom Design Diamond Lace ShawlThis knitting pattern is for custom created design for a shawl. The diagonal arrangement of open and closed diamonds was formed by shifting knitted row stitches. Stitches were carefully selected to create visual symmetry for the diagonal edges of the diamonds; this involves such stitches as "slip 2 together, knit 1, pass 2 slipped stitches over" to decrease from 3 to 1 stitch. Decreasing from 2 to 1 involves different stitch types to obtain the correct "lean" to the decrease.
The pattern is written to make it easy to follow. Instructions for each row are written line by line (442 rows); this makes it easy to mark off completed rows. As written, the pattern should create a shawl of about 18x 74 inches using a U. S. #9 circular needle (almost 900 yards of medium weight yarn). The stitch pattern repeats every 24 rows and the shawl length can be modified by adding or subtracting repeat sections. The width can be modified as the pattern is written with 3 marked repeats; one of repeats varies to make the correct border connection. Explanations are provided for less common stitches.
The pattern is in PDF format (17 pages when printed) and will be supplied by e-mail after payment is made. The pattern is copyrighted by the designer and sold for the exclusive non-profit use of the purchaser.
Images show enlarged detail of the stitch pattern on the front and back sides.
The completed shawl, in yellow, is also available for separate purchase, unless sold.
